DIY: Simple Cloth Napkins

Here's something I learned from getting married: people will ask you the same things over and over again.

Mostly they ask you if you're ready/excited.  They want to know how you met/got engaged and then they want to know what 'your' colors are.

We didn't have colors at our wedding.  By that, I mean, we had all colors.  In retrospect, it probably would have been easier if we had a more tangible theme with colors, but I like all colors (except blue, obviously).
I didn't want to limit myself to just 2 colors out of the whole palette.

So, my mom and I went to the fabric stores and found 3 different patterns to make napkins with.  These became the color for the whole thing.

I loved how it all turned out and it made it so we could be a lot more minimalistic with the rest of the decorations and flowers.

These DIY cloth napkins were so easy and they'd be perfect to spruce up your holiday table this year or you could wrap up some cooking utensils in homemade napkins for a Christmas gift.

DIY CLOTH NAPKINS (makes 6)
Supplies
1 yard washed, cotton fabric (preferably with the pattern on both sides)
matching thread
pins
sewing machine
iron
scissors

1.  Cut your fabric into 18 inch squares (you can make them 16, 18, 20, or 21 inch squares).
2.  Iron the edges over about 1/8th of an inch.  The easiest and quickest way to do this is to fold a few inches in front of the iron and iron the fold as you go.
3.  Snip off each corner once you've folded in all sides (about 1/8th of an inch).
4.  Fold 2 of the edges again (opposite each other), this time 1/4 inch, ironing along the way.
5.  Sew 1/4 inch in from the edges (of those 2 sides) to catch the fold.
6.  After sewing the 2 edges, trim the corners again, then repeat on the remaining 2 sides.

7.  Trim any loose threads and wash to soften.
